Okel Tor Mine is situated on the tidal reaches of the River Tamar just downstream from Morwellham Quay where the BBC series 'Edwardian Farm' was filmed. Okel Tor is acknowledged by English Heritage to be one of the best surviving 19th century tin mines nationally. It is both an Ancient Monument and World Heritage Site. The Smithy was the workshop of the mine where miners' picks were sharpened and the Count House is the former mine captain's office. The cottages are about 15 metres apart and screened from each other with vegetation, both are Grade II Listed and situated in an elevated position within approximately 16 acres of natural woodland and lowland heath on the banks of the River Tamar with beautiful views of Devon. There are a number of interesting ruins and an abundance of flora and fauna. The village of Calstock is a short walk away and has village shop open from 8am to 8pm, a pub which serves food, and branch line railway station with regular services to Plymouth. The National Trusts enchanting Cotehele House is also within walking distance and the Tamar Valley Discovery Trail actually passes through Okel Tor. Dartmoor, Bodmin Moor and the sandy beaches at Whitsand Bay on the south coast are just a short drive away. The Smithy offers under floor heating and a log burning stove, 1 double bedroom, and 1 shower room, open-plan living room with sofa-bed, kitchen and dining areas.
